What is Full Mouth Reconstruction?

For patients who have significant damage, decay, have lost many teeth, and undergone countless dental procedures, they may realize that they’re only delaying the inevitable. Once decay has been left untreated, teeth have undergone years of grinding, or if the patient has already lost a significant amount of teeth, a full mouth reconstruction may be necessary.

A full mouth reconstruction involves restoring or replacing all of the teeth in the mouth as well as potential treatments to the gums and jaw to ensure that the patient has adequate facial support, bone density, a properly aligned bite, and adequate gum tissue. This is ideally a last-resort treatment for patients who have a multitude of issues with the structure, function, and appearance of their smile.

If you’re tired of coming to the dentist for temporary fixes for severe problems in the structure or health of your mouth, a full mouth reconstruction might be right for you. Get in touch with us at White Dental Spa in Dallas today to schedule a consultation and find out if you’re a good candidate.

What to Expect From Your Full Mouth Reconstruction

Consultation With our Doctors

Our process at White Dental Spa begins with a consultation. Our dentists in Dallas need to examine your mouth thoroughly to get a full idea of your oral health, the condition of your teeth, potential problems that need addressing, and your overall goals.

Treatment Plan

The consultation helps us determine what treatments would be best suited for you and if you can have your treatment completed in-house or if you will need any referrals such as to an oral surgeon or orthodontist. We will then construct a treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.

Procedures

Treatments can range in number, length of treatment, and cost. Once a treatment plan has been formulated, we can begin to work on the most urgent procedures first or the procedures that will take the most healing time.

We can give you a more in-depth and accurate description of what to expect once you come in for a consultation as the specific procedures and healing time involved is variable to each patient’s specific situation.

WHAT DOES A FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION ENTAIL?

Full mouth reconstruction is tailored to each individual’s specific needs. Depending on how many teeth you are missing, if you have healthy gums, bone tissue, or if your facial structure is beginning to sag and give you a sunken-in look, various treatments can address these issues.  A full mouth reconstruction combines treatments such as root canals, dental crowns, bridges dental implants, veneers, orthodontics, gum, and jaw surgery to restore your mouth to its optimal health and structure.  Certain patients may only need one or a few treatments. For example, all-on-four dental implants can replace all of the teeth in the mouth by securing dentures into the jawbone with a series of dental implants. This will also prevent further bone loss. Other patients may have multiple issues such as missing or damaged teeth as well as receding gums, dwindling bone tissue, and a sagging facial structure. These patients will likely need more treatments that will take a little longer to perform.  A full mouth reconstruction may be carried out in a single appointment, (such is the case with implant-supported dentures), or may take a full year or more when many aspects of the mouth’s structure need to be corrected. This is because many of the procedures that correct these issues, such as grafting surgery or implants require months of healing.

AM I A CANDIDATE?

A candidate for full mouth reconstruction would be someone who has some of the following: Multiple missing teeth TMJ Worn down, damaged, or decayed teeth A misaligned/improper bite Pain in the jaw or head from TMJ or bruxism Facial trauma Receding gums Bone loss Lack of lip or facial support Difficulty eating or speaking Aesthetic issues with their smile Loose teeth If we identify any significant oral health problems like active tooth decay or gum disease, these issues will need to be treated before you can become a candidate for a full mouth reconstruction. A full mouth reconstruction can restore the function, structure, and appearance of the mouth. It will make it easier to chew and speak more clearly as well as increasing the patient’s confidence in their smile.  Tooth restorations or replacements will assist with the durability and protection of the teeth. Gum and bone grafts can restore gum and bone tissue and jaw surgery or orthodontics can correct a misaligned bite and relieve pain, tension, and strain associated with TMJ.
