Dental crowns protect teeth from further damage

If one of your teeth has been damaged or broken in Dallas, Highland Park, or Turtle Creek, a dental crown from White Dental Spa is the perfect way to restore your natural smile, and protect your tooth from any further damage or deterioration.

Placing a dental crown typically takes two appointments at our office, but this may vary, based on the specifics of your case. At your first appointment, your Dallas dentist will examine your teeth, and ensure that a crown is the right treatment for you.

Then, impressions and photos of the tooth will be taken. These are sent to an outside lab, where your crown will be manufactured. After this, your tooth will be prepared for the crown. When your permanent crown arrives at White Dental Spa, it will be placed permanently using dental cement, which completes the restoration.

Frequently asked questions

1

Does Getting A Dental Crown Hurt?

One of the biggest concerns that many people have when it comes to dental procedures is the pain involved. Fortunately, getting a dental crown is usually a pain-free process. Before the procedure begins, the dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth that will receive the crown. This will prevent you from feeling any pain during the procedure. We use drill-less dentistry and numbing agents to minimize discomfort while trimming your tooth, and the procedure requires no other invasive surgery. After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity, but this will usually go away within a few days.
2

Why Might I Need A Dental Crown?

There are several reasons why Dr. E-Jan Tung & Dr. Quinn Liu might recommend a dental crown. One reason is to protect a weakened tooth. A dental crown can help to prevent further damage to a tooth that has been weakened due to decay or injury. It can also help to restore the tooth's functionality and prevent it from breaking or fracturing. Another reason why Dr. E-Jan Tung & Dr. Quinn Liu might recommend a dental crown is to stabilize sections of a cracked tooth. A cracked tooth can be a painful and uncomfortable experience, and a dental crown can help to hold the tooth together and prevent the crack from getting worse. This can also help to alleviate any pain or discomfort that the patient may be experiencing. Additionally, a crown can be used to cover a dental implant or hold a dental bridge in place.
3

How Long Do Dental Crowns Last?

The short answer is 5-15 years. In reality, however, how long a dental crown lasts can depend on various factors such as the type of material used and how well you maintain your oral hygiene. To help prolong the life of your crown, it's important to practice good oral hygiene habits, such as brushing and flossing regularly and visiting your dentist for regular check-ups.
4

How Do I Care For My Dental Crown?

Caring for your dental crown is similar to caring for your natural teeth. It is important to brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and floss daily to remove any plaque buildup. Avoid chewing on hard foods or using your teeth to open bottles or packages, as this can damage your crown. If you grind your teeth at night, wearing a nightguard can help protect your crown from wear and tear.
5

Can I Have My Metal Crown Replaced With A Porcelain Crown?

Yes, it’s possible to replace a metal crown with a porcelain crown. Porcelain crowns are a popular choice because they closely resemble natural teeth in color and texture. They are also biocompatible, making them a safe choice for those with metal allergies. If you are interested in replacing your metal crown with a porcelain crown, schedule a consultation with White Dental Spa to get a definitive answer. In most cases, though, it is possible. If you have an old, discolored steel or gold crown that is affecting how you feel about your smile, you can replace it with a natural-looking porcelain crown.
